Loss of beaches and increased flooding in the Canary Islands

El Día newspaper has published an article on rising sea levels which could wipe out the dunes of Maspalomas and provoke the loss of the Barlovento and las Teresitas beaches by the end of the century. Researcher at IOCAG and Chairman of the Canary Committee for Studying Climate Change and Promoting the Circular and Blue Economy, Dr Aridane González, furthermore indicated that areas prone to flooding once a year could be at risk of suffering this phenomenon as many as three times per annum. Coordination and political will would be vital, emphasised Dr González, adding that there was sufficient data for humanity to adapt and mitigate climate change.
